CABAL’s Crimean campaign is a free, browser-based historical and educational simulation. By loading or playing it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

What CABAL is

CABAL is an educational and historical simulation that demonstrates hierarchical agentic-AI concepts in the setting of the 1855 Grand Crimean Central Railway. It is provided for learning, research, and entertainment only.

It is not for operational or real-world military use. The tactical doctrines, advisors, and military references are simulation devices. Nothing in CABAL is advice for, or fit for, any real operational, military, safety-critical, or decision-making purpose.

Free public play

Public play requires no account and no sign-up, and the game is provided free of charge. Your save games and settings are kept in your own browser. See our Privacy & Data Handling notice for what reaches the services that host the game.

Optional AI advisors

The public service uses deterministic heuristics by default and may offer explicit on-device WebGPU inference. If selected, model files are downloaded from the identified model host and inference runs in your browser. AI output may be inaccurate, anachronistic, or unsuitable for any purpose. Separately self-hosted server-backed editions, if enabled by their operator, are governed by that operator's terms, privacy notice, provider agreement, and charges; they are not this public service.

Optional campaign inference uses your own OpenRouter key after you select Haiku 5.5 or GPT-6 Luna at high effort and consent in AI Inference Setup. Campaign context and advisor prompts go to OpenRouter and its model provider. This consent includes automatic campaign requests that charge your OpenRouter account while connected; no shared CABAL-paid key is used. The key stays in tab memory and is forgotten on reload or disconnection. CABAL's 100-provider-attempt limit per connected tab session and unverified-billing stop are browser-side guards, not provider-enforced spending limits. Reconnecting creates a new session. Use a restricted key with a small spending limit. Provider terms, account settings and charges apply; disconnection may still incur charges for requests already sent. Optional Jev advisor comparisons use an OpenRouter key you provide. Each comparison requires your consent to transmit the question and a reduced campaign snapshot to OpenRouter and TypeSafe and to charge your OpenRouter account. Provider terms, account settings and charges apply. Use a restricted key with a small spending limit. CABAL's panel-local request and reported-spend guards are not provider-enforced caps; they reset when you close the panel or replace the key. Cancellation may still incur a charge. Jev's shortlist is experimental advice and does not control the simulation. Optional Jev staff-officer advice in the tactical drill works the same way with its own key field and consent: it suggests one of the quick orders you could give, never issues one, and its guards reset when the drill ends. Licence

CABAL is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) licence. You may share and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes with attribution and under the same licence. Third-party components and data carry their own licences; see the Credits page.

Provided “as is”, no warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of inaccuracies.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The service provider is established in the United Kingdom.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version.
